Fifty Shades of Grey
It’s currently 3:50am here in the UK, and I’m wide freakin’ awake.
One, I was following the Caps, finally breathing a sigh of relief when they got the equilibrium tonight versus the Rangers. GR8 with the GWG! Series now tied. Can I get a ‘woo woo’?
Two, in between cursing my internet connection and biting my nails about the Caps, I’ve managed to finish reading ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. And it got such a reaction out of me that I’ve resurrected my oft-times defunct Tumblr just to rant and rave.
Might I direct your attention to the following bullets:
1) Yes, I did enjoy the book. I’m actually surprised at how much I liked the story and the characters. I will be scouring the nearest bookstore in Edinburgh tomorrow to find the sequel.
2) I don’t understand why this series gathered so. much. buzz. “Mommy porn” has been around for years! And I’ve read a lot of them, though I prefer ‘erotic romance’ to straight ‘erotica’. While I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ (can’t wait to read the next one!), there is nothing about it that’s extraordinary. Not to me, at least.
3) I suspect that this series became popular overnight because it was originally published in a Twilight fan-fiction site. These Twilight fans are no joke.
4) No, BDSM and hardcore erotica do not phase me at all. As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been reading them for years. If you’d like a recommendation, try Sylvia Day, Lora Leigh, and Jess Michaels.
5) I can’t help but say ‘Fiddy’ in my head.
6) How the fuck are they going to turn ‘Fifty Shades’ into a movie?? It’s already been picked up by a studio. But what studio?? Hustler?? You can’t take a book like this and tone down the sex for a movie. (Hot) sex is the crux of this story! Maybe I exaggerate but it will certainly lose integrity and its true nature. How are they going to go from rated XXX to R? Or maybe they won’t. In which case, I’ll be at opening night, wide eyed and ready. Ha! No, but seriously - I’ll be there.
